The following of the USK Symposium videos! KK., Marc Taro Holmes, Maru Godas. :)

Hi! I hope you are doing well and that your days are creative and exciting! 😊

I kept working quite hard on the videos about the Urban Sketchers Symposium which tool place in Chicago last year.
I try to convey a special atmosphere for each video and to share the workshop teaching as well as what it’s like to be hundreds of sketchers in the streets. 😉

The second one from the series show the instructors sketching in the morning, before the workshops begin : Liz Steel, Stephanie Bower and Marc Taro Holmes are painting the famous Chicago Theater. All along the video, I browse my sketchbook for you, sharing my drawings and sketches done with every media and tools : watercolor but also ink, pencils, gouache !… My sketchbook includes instax mini photos as well.

We then enjoy a bit of Maru Godas workshop, “Gouache like a child”, and some leaf through in her sketchbook. What an inspiration!

At the end of the video, Marc and I are painting the skyline and railways from a bridge (in full sun!!). The chat with Marc Taro Holmes is so interesting… I am happy to be able to share that with you! Continue reading

USK Symposium [Episode 4]. Veronica Lawlor workshop and Marc Taro Holmes painting

Here is the 4th episode of our saga about the Manchester Urban Sketchers Symposium! 😀 😙

This videos is especially about Veronica Lawlor workshop, which was really inspiring and interesting.
Her sketches have such an amazing style and, as an illustrator living in New York, she even sketched the World Trade Center attack, live, so the least we can say is that she knows what she is talking about!… (Oh that’s so weird, I just realized, writing that, that we were the 11th September. All my thoughts to the victims and families…)

I really really like what she is telling in the video :

“Sometimes, that little bit of exaggeration or distortion can really becomes a lie to tell the truth. If I draw exactly, you’ll know what I saw ; if I really push on it, you’ll know what I felt”.
Veronica Lawlor.

I think I need to write that somewhere. 😝 😉

So, I keep browsing my sketchbook for you, telling you what I tried to achieve with my sketches and talking, especially, about giving depth and dynamism to our drawings.

This video also includes 5 full minutes of Marc Taro Holmes painting and that’s such a treat to watch him paint and to study his awesome technique!! 😃

Video of Marc Taro Holmes watercolor demo. [in Alvor, Portugal]

Hi guys! 😀

I am very happy, today, to be able to share with you this video I made, showing Marc Taro Holmes in action, during our workshop in Portugal!
Thank you so much, Marc, for allowing me to share this! 😉

That’s so fascinating to be able to watch and study Marc brushwork, its way to handle a large scene, its technique of using at times juicy paint and at times thicker one… Seeing, that way, a painting “creating itself” in front of our eyes really is awesome! 😝

As I was rather close to Marc, 😉 I was capable of catching great close-up views of his painting technique and brushwork, with two different lenses and my hybrid camera. For this demo, I was able to keep the sound too, so you can even benefit from a few of his advices. 😛 Continue reading
